Father's Day Weekend Re-Cap!

**This is way overdue...just like all the post scheduled for this week. We have had a busy week with traveling ad a few other things so I apologize for the delay in posts!**

We had another wonderful weekend! I swear that I live for our family weekends--it's the only time I ever get somewhat of a break around here in our little chaotic world.

Friday afternoon before nap time, I dropped the girls off with my mom and headed to Frederick to run some long-overdue errands! Before I knew it, the car was jammed packed from Target, Costco and Wal-Mart. And Friday night, I once again stayed home with my girls and indulged in an entire pizza myself. I had to explain to Tim when he arrived home that there was none left because, yes, I in fact ate it all myself. I had to explain that a few times before he clearly understood me. It was quite funny.

Saturday Nana came over and we played as usual!

Tim went to play golf with his best friend Nate for Father's Day and had a wonderful time! When he arrived home Tammy had made tomato soup with dumplings for dinner which was absolutely wonderful! In fact, after Tammy left, I found Tim in the kitchen doing dishes and eating the rest of the soup and dumplings with a very guilty look on his face, but I can't blame him, it was sooo yummy!!

On Sunday we hung out with those who made Tim's Father's Day celebration possible, our little girls! I am such a blessed woman to have such a wonderful husband and perfect partner as a father to our little ladies. He couldn't be a better man or dad!

Madelynn had a blow-out before I could get a photo of all the girls with their daddy so that is why her outfit doesn't match her sisters in the photos below! UGH!

After the girls woke up from nap, we went to my parent's house for dinner and desert. We had yummy kabobs on the grill which included steak, red and green peppers, pineapple and mushrooms with rice and I made a homemade blueberry pie for desert.

All in all it was a great family weekend!

Today, One year ago!

--- June 9th ---

Last year this day was one to sure remember. It was the day we found out I was finally pregnant. However, we sure didn't know that the bundle of joy in my belly was in fact THREE bundles of joy, we only thought it could be two, and not possibly three!!! Oh, how our lives were so different then, and we had no idea what was to come for our family!! It was such an exciting day and such a happy, happy memory!

---June 24th---

Last year this day was an even bigger surprise! We had no idea when we told the doctor on embryo transfer day, "What's really our chances of conceiving multiples? We've never won anything so we'll take the chance!" YEAH! God was sure laughing at us that day! I'll never forget the day we found out that we would soon be parents of three children and I will never, ever forget the look on Tim's face or the fact that I could not stop laughing in disbelief!!!! What a wonderful memory it is and I can't wait to share all these fun stories with my girls when the grow up.
And so one year later...this is what we have now...

Three beautiful 6-month-old daughters!

We couldn't be a more happy and blessed family!!

Womb Transplant?

I don't know all the details behind this story of a woman transplanting her womb to her daughter so that she may possibly be able to concieve a child(ren), but I can't help to smile at yet another possible future option for couples suffering from infertility. I am a big supporter of infertility research and advances and I only hope that the future holds bright for anyone dealing with the struggles of infertility.

What do you think about this story?

Sleep Issues and Book Reviews: The Happiest Baby on the Block and The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program

This past week we have had some terrible, terrible nights in our house with no sleeping. Madelynn has been driving me crazy at night for some unknown reason and thus made me pull out every trick known-to-mom. I think we finally figured it out, or a combination of things that could have been the problem(s). More on her progress at the end of the post.

But since I was at my wits-end, I quickly read through two books I found at the library on sleep and sleep problems/issues/challenges:

The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer by Harvery Karp, MD

and

The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program: Follow Your Child's Natural Sleep Rhythms For Better Nights and Naps by Polly Moore, Phd

These reviews are much shorter than my last review, but I just wasn't as convinced with these books on ideas for sleep.

I'll first start with The Happiest Baby on the Block, which is written by a pediatrician. I thought it was an ok read. It is a really great book if you have no clue how to parent or care for a newborn. If I had not had all the experience I had before my girls were born, I'm sure this book would have taught me a lot, but since it really focuses on newborns until 6 months, I didn't find much use in anything that I read to use now.

It focuses on The 5 S's...which are Swaddling, Side (or Stomach), Shhhhh-ing, Swinging and Sucking and how to combine all five to create a calm baby to sleep the longest possible. Most of this I did and some I still do, but like I said, if you are a first parent and have no idea what to do and want some advice, I think this is actually a pretty good and easy read too.

There were kind-of strange little facts in the books, like this one: History has recorded that Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Jesus were all swaddled as babies (pg.109). Really? How do you know that? Where is that listed? I'd like to know, because I'm not sure if Mary wrote down that Jesus was swaddled, but maybe??

The next book, The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program was strange to me. I really didn't think there was much use to this book, and probably could have written a better book myself after only 6 months of trying different sleep solutions for my three. I didn't learn anything new, I guess, but not that it was not well written or anything like that. It did however, reiterate what I am doing, which that I was glad for. Such things as, putting the baby to bed early often leads to baby sleeping longer, following baby's natural sleep patterns, never letting a baby stay up more than 90 minutes when they are newborns, making sure baby is warm, making sure baby is getting enough napping during the day but not too much, how to get baby to sooth herself on her own, not picking her up when she cries at night and making a sleep plan and STICKING TO IT!

It also goes through a lot of "what if's" and common sleep problems that many parents face, which I did find good to read, especially since it focused on many of the issues I saw in Madelynn.

But after reading these two books and of course my favorite book of 12 Hours of Sleep by 12 Weeks Old,  I just decided to do a few different things in hopes to get Madelynn back on the same page as her sisters.

Our issues were: Waking every hour and flipping over onto her back and then playing/talking which then lead to screaming (not crying, but just more like "hey Mom come flip me back over on my tummy NOOOOWWW!!!!") and then continuing the process about 25 times throughout the night. Which then this lead to getting way over-tired and crying and crying and crying and then wanting to eat more frequently and so on.

We tried diaper changes (dirty? or diaper rash? or was something was pulling? or pinching?) changed jammies (was she uncomfortablee? or mad she didn't get another jammie she wanted that night?--LOL, or didn't want socks? or wanted socks?, didn't want any pants and just a onesies?), no blanket (too hot?), extra blankets (too cold?), gas drops (was her tummy hurting? or was she too full?), tylenol (anything to help calm her down and/or teething?), gave her her lovie, put her music on.... I rocked her, held her, calmed her, sang to her, fed her, walked around with her in the dark..ALLLL NIGHT LONG. She would fall asleep, just enough for me to go lay back down and then BOOM, back to crying. It was miserable. And then Natalee would wake up and then Claire and then back to Madelynn. I just laid on their floor most of the night when they weren't screaming, almost crying myself because of how tired I was. Oh, and during this whole time, I was the one sick with laryngitis and a bad cold. I couldn't stop coughing, which kept waking them up too, it was just miserable all around!

It's hard to just let her cry it out because I risk waking the other two girls up. I let her cry it out as much as I could but it's hard to do so with multiples and emotionally--or even a single baby for that fact!

So after reading the books, talking with my mom and my MIL, things changed and sleep got better for her and in turn everyone else too: I went back to rice cereal at night for Madelynn and only gave her a little bit of veggies with it (I had been giving her oatmeal cereal with veggies but maybe it didn't sit well in her tummy as well as rice cereal). She slept well. We got out of the house for the day. She slept well. We made her stay awake from 4:30pm until 8:30pm, NO MATTER WHAT. She slept well. I gave her tylenol before bed. She slept well.

It also might have been that we had moved Claire into her own bed and then this all started up so maybe she was just getting used to being alone also. It probably was a combination of all things and just growing pains. I am sure it will be not the last time that we have to re-evaluate our sleeping patterns and such. But since these improvements, Madelynn has slept from 8:30pm until around 5am, when Claire and Natalee normally wake-up to eat a quick 3 ounces and back to bed it is until 8:30/9:00am. I can't complain on that! We are all much, much happier!!

Weekend Re-Cap with LOTS of photos!

This past weekend started off with a girls night in, since it was waaaay too hot to go to softball with Tim! We had a lot of fun full of eating cereal and veggies, bathy-time, stories and watching "our" show (Baby Einstein).

While I was giving each of the girls baths, I had the other ones watching Baby Einstein in our room, and Claire was so darn cute watching her show and waiting her tun for her bath...

Hey, what are you looking at?

Natalee looked so cute too...

In her bunny slippers!

Claire even managed to stay awake until 11:30pm blowing bubbles and spitting all over the place! Her new favorite thing to do is cover her eyes with her hands and blow bubbles as loud as she can everywhere...she is such a goof! Finally she fell asleep and I could get some rest too, thank goodness.

Saturday Nana came over and we played and baked some goodies which included coffee cake, strawberry pie and lemon cake for Grandma's birthday celebration! Tim had to work for a few hours and then was home for lunch. I got to run some errands and also went to try and pick up some already-picked fresh strawberries but the local orchard didn't have any so I before I went to pick some myself I realized I had left my phone at home and so decided I would head home instead. I begged Tim to brave the 95 degree weather and go back and pick some strawberries with me and he agreed! But boy was it HOT and since it's the end of the season here, there wasn't much to pick! But I also got some tomatoes and some zucchini before leaving!

We even tried on our bathing-suits and took some pictures with Nana!!

Eat my hand Natalee!

Mom, aren't you going to help me?!

Claire

I never get tired of taking photos of three little tushies!

Gatar with her tongue out!

Lots of giggles!

Natalee watching the Phillies with Daddy! This girl LOVES all sports!

Hey Mom, bring me a drink!

I also got to take rest a little in between laundry since my throat is still hurting and I'm coughing like crazy, but I think I am improving...slowly, but not nearly fast enough for my busy life!

Saturday night Tim and I had a quiet evening in with our three little loves. We also got to snuggle up and watch a movie together which was wonderful, however the movie wasn't so good, or at least I didn't think so. We watched Sanctum, and even though it's based on a true story, the true story is NOTHING like the movie, which I found disturbing because the  movie is just full of death and dying. In the true story, NO ONE dies, and which after watching the movie, I think that would have made a much better movie then what was made.  But I love laying in the couch in the dark night with the one I love, eating popcorn! Nothing better that that!

Sunday we hung out around the house with the girls and finished up chores before heading to Grandma and Grandpa's house for steaks on the grill, salad, and baked potatoes! Not to mention yummy lemon cake and strawberry pie with cool whip for desert!

Grandpa giving Claire lemon icing!

Yummy, Mommy, I LOVE LEMON ICING!

It was a wonderful weekend and I hope yours was too! We have some busy weekend ahead of us with some traveling to other states for family events and a little vacation time, so I am super busy trying to make lists and organize all that we will need for a our trips! I can't believe the stuff we need now but it will be great for everyone, not to mention I am super excited to see family, have something to do and somewhere to go!! :)
