Cabin 4th of July Weekend

This past weekend, only 5 days after returning from PA, we headed up to the cabin in Berkley Springs, WV. Another one of our favorite places to be, ans this was the first time we have been back up there in over a year! I was only 9-10 weeks pregnant on our last trip. I cannot believe that it had been a whole year since we had been up!

Here's a photo we took last year...(I never did write about our vacation up there last year)!

I was so excited to show the girls the cabin that their grandpa built with the help of our family and good friends! It means so much to me and is such a sentimental place in my heart. I hope it stays around for the lives of my children and their children and always be some place to go to remember those who mean the most! It has such special memories and I can't wait to make many more as my family continues to grow!

We arrived up on Friday evening after a few hours in traffic, but the girls did great in the car! My aunt and uncle were there and greeted us with smiles! They hadn't seen the girls since they were a few days old in the NICU.  We gave baths, fed food and they slept pretty well after it cooled down and in the morning everyone started to arrive.

My parents, sister and her friend were first to arrive. Then my grandma and her boyfriend, Al, my uncle and his girlfriend and then all of my cousins. It was such a wonderful time.

The whole Fam!

We went to the river and splashed around for a little while before heading down to the town to pick up honey-dipped fried chicken which they always have only on 4th of July weekend. It is soooo good. I always get green beans with ham and sweet potatoes and it is just devine!

Back at the cabin we had bbq chicken, cole slaw, corn on the cob, baked-beans, potato salad and my grandma's famous cucumber salad. Everything was so delicious. For desert we normally have "Flag Cake" which I have been making for years, but this year I decided not to and so we had brownie sundays with strawberries and blueberries, while sitting around the campfire. So nice!

She sure does love her Grandpa!

On Sunday we had a wonderful breakfast and enjoyed just hanging out with the family. We went back to the river and since it was so incredibly hot, the girls had a blast and LOVED the river and the warm water. The day before they didn't hate it but it wasn't as much of a hit as it was on Sunday. They just couldn't get enough of it in their little floats. My heart was melting! They are so darn cute! Everyone on the beach and floating by kept asking if they were triplets and always saying how adorable they were! One proud momma here! Tim enjoyed kayaking for awhile too.

Natalee couldn't get enough of it!

And of course our first born child--she is a big lover of the water!

Claire in the yellow boat! She thought the handle on the front was a built in chew toy for her...but whatever she loved it!

Because the air conditioning wasn't working and it was 89 degrees in the cabin, most of the family was going home early and so we did too. The night before it was really miserable for the girls because it was so humid even though it did cool off, but I was still sad to leave a day early. I really wanted to stay until Monday and watch the fireworks that evening but I just couldn't have my children unhappy and sweating like they were.

But all and all it was another wonderful weekend full of family and fun!

Stay tuned for photos of the actual 4th of July!
