Why is health insurance so pricey? And what's this about pre-existing issues could (more like, will) deny you. As an almost 24 year old, female, in good health...I cannot get health insurance. I was denied over 6 times in the course of a few months! Is this fair? No! The stress I went through, the denial letters, trying to concieve and have no health insurance...was I crazy!??!
Even as a Social Worker, I am not a screaming liberal as some would expect, but I do feel that as a productive, tax-paying, legal citizen of this wonderful country, I should be provided with adequate health insurance. Is Obama's health care plan going to work, who knows at this point.
What I do know is that there are around 46 million people in the "land of oppurtunity" who do not have health insurance. Let me say that again, 46 MILLION! Many of these people have it far worse then me, but what is mind boggling, is if I can't get it (at 24, healthy and fit) then think of all the poor (and I don't mean economically only) people out there in our country! Something is not right here!!
For me, why you may ask I couldn't recieve health insurance...any or all of the following:
High Cholesterol
Hypothyriodism
Endometriosis aka FERTILITY
Health insurance's see the word FERTILITY, and scream, NO, we do not need this on our policy! It's such a shame! And I know the reasons, money, money, liability, money, money...I get it, don't get me wrong...it could be a lot worse and what really am I complaining about, but still...I must complain! It's just ins't fair!
Thank goodness University of Maryland, Baltimore took me under their wing and have provided me with health insurance until May 21, 2010...the day of graduation. I am very thankful for this health insurance and still wonder about all the millions of people out there that have it far worse than me!
